The magic of the non-plan plan!
There’s something pretty magical about letting go of the plan and trusting life to unfold.
I recently went to Canada to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday and host a grounding workshop in High River, Alberta. Both were absolutely magical, but in very different ways. One filled my heart as a mother, and the other reminded me just how much I love bringing women together, creating space for connection, and sharing the work that has become such a big part of my life.
The workshop was held at Inner Light, the most beautiful studio run by a couple of my favourite ladies. We brought together a super cool group of women, and the energy in that room was something special. But one of my favourite parts? Two of my childhood friends showed up to support me. I honestly couldn't stop smiling.
There I was, doing something I love, looking out at two women who have known me since childhood. It was one of those moments when you just feel so grateful for the people who have been part of your story. I then had a few nights with my adorable Italian family whom I absolutely adore. (heart so full... and so was my stomach! LOL - Pina is the BEST cook ever!).
And then there was Bili's birthday.
Eighteen. How is that even possible?
We went all out with balloons, decorations (obviously colour-coordinated because you know me), and lots of presents to support her ongoing self-love journey. Celebrating her felt surreal. How crazy is it to have an 18-year-old daughter living hundreds of miles away, already at university, building a life of her own?
The hardest part was saying goodbye. We were standing outside as my Uber arrived, both of us crying, trying to squeeze in one last hug before I had to leave. Those goodbyes just never get easier.
Motherhood has a funny way of stretching your heart in ways you never quite expect. You spend years raising these little humans, doing everything you can to give them roots and wings. Then, one day, they fly, and you're left learning how to navigate a completely different version of motherhood.
I've been reflecting on how dysregulated I've felt over the past few years. Since Bili moved away to boarding school and then began living independently in Alberta, life has asked me to adjust in ways I don't think I fully acknowledged at the time. You keep going. You work, you build, you show up for everyone, you carry on. And sometimes you don't realize how much your own system has been holding until you finally get a moment to slow down.
This trip gave me a lot to think about. And being back in Costa Rica feels like exactly what I need right now: time to reconnect, ground myself, and find my way back to a steadier place.
But let's get back to the non-plan plan.
A few days before I was going to book my return flight, a new friend I'd met through the workshop messaged me. She had travelled from Colorado to Alberta to attend, and now she was asking if I'd come to Colorado.
My response?
WHY NOT!
I was already on the non-plan plan.
So, instead of heading straight home, I went to Colorado. This beautiful woman welcomed me into her home, and we had the best time. We soaked in hot springs, ate the most delicious bone marrow, laughed, talked, and enjoyed the kind of connection that makes you feel like you've known someone far longer than you actually have.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, we started talking about business.
I've been thinking about expanding my studio concept into a franchise and rebranding. It's something I've been turning over in my mind, exploring what the next chapter could look like and how I might grow what I've spent so many years building.
I shared this with my friend.
Turns out, she'd just bought a building downtown in her town and wants to open a studio on the second floor.
You cannot make this shit up.
There I was, travelling without a rigid plan, following an invitation, sitting with someone I'd only recently met, and suddenly there was a potential connection between two ideas that had been floating around independently.
Was it a sign? A coincidence? Perfect timing?
Maybe a little of everything.
I don't think every unexpected moment is the universe handing us a five-year business plan. But I do think there's something to be said for staying open. When we loosen our grip on how things are supposed to happen, we sometimes create space for conversations, people, and opportunities we never could have planned ourselves.
And that brings me to something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
What happens when we stop trying to control every part of the journey and start trusting ourselves enough to meet life as it comes?
I've had my fair share of starting over. After my divorce, I had to rebuild parts of my life I thought would look very different. I kept going. I tried to be the best mom I could be, the best friend I could be, and the best wife to the man I've now been married to for nearly eight years. I've built businesses, created programs, taught thousands of classes, and continued to learn about myself along the way.
I've tried to show up for the people I love, even during seasons when I was still figuring things out for myself.
And while I'm proud of that, I'm also learning that being strong doesn't mean you have to hold everything together all the time. Being committed doesn't mean you have to control every outcome. And being a good mother, friend, or partner doesn't mean you have to put your own grounding on the back burner.
Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause.
Sometimes the next right step is simply saying yes to an invitation, booking the trip, taking the scenic route, or allowing a new connection to surprise you.
The non-plan plan isn't about being careless or abandoning responsibility. It's about creating enough space in your life to respond to what's actually happening instead of being so attached to what you thought was supposed to happen.
It's about listening. It's about trusting your intuition. It's about being willing to change direction when something feels right, even if it wasn't on the original itinerary.
And it's about remembering that we don't have to have every detail figured out before we begin.
I'm back in Costa Rica now, with a heart full of love, a head full of ideas, and a nervous system that's ready for some much-needed grounding. I'm giving myself permission to slow down, reconnect, and let the next chapter take shape without needing to know exactly what it looks like.
Maybe that's the real magic.
Not that everything always works out exactly as we hoped, but that life can still surprise us when we're willing to participate in it without gripping so tightly.
So here's to the non-plan plan.
To saying yes. To letting go. To the friends who show up, the daughters who grow their wings, the unexpected invitations, the ideas that find each other, and the moments that remind us we're still becoming.
And to trusting that sometimes, when we stop forcing the path, we finally have the space to see where it leads.
Have you ever had one of those moments when letting go of the plan led you somewhere you never expected? I'd love to hear about it. 🤍
And now, a new chapter: iMUV Studios
So, what came out of all this?
After a year of thinking, dreaming, planning, and reworking ideas, I'm finally ready to share the next chapter of my vision.
Introducing iMUV Studios: Movement & Mental Health. 🤍
This is so much more than a rebrand. It's about bringing together everything I've spent decades learning, teaching, creating, and believing in, under one roof.
My vision is to create spaces and opportunities where movement, mental health, healing, and personal growth can exist together. Spaces where you don't have to fit a certain mould, where your wellbeing matters just as much as your physical strength, and where the people guiding you have the education and tools to support you with care.
iMUV will bring together trauma-aware trained yoga, Multi Barre, and mat Pilates instructors, alongside a growing library of on-demand classes through the iMUV app. We'll also offer healing and personal development programs designed to help people better understand themselves, reconnect with who they are, and continue growing through life's many transitions.
And there's another piece of this vision that is especially close to my heart.
Through the iMUV nonprofit, we will create sponsorship opportunities for survivors of domestic violence, helping make movement, healing, and personal growth programs more accessible to those who may not otherwise have the resources to participate.
Because I believe everyone deserves access to spaces that help them feel stronger, more connected, and supported in their healing.
And the Colorado connection? Well, let's just say there are some exciting conversations happening about what iMUV could look like in a new location. The idea of growing this vision beyond where it began feels both surreal and incredibly exciting.
After years of building businesses, teaching, creating programs, and starting over in different seasons of my life, this feels like a natural next step. One that brings together so many of the things I care deeply about.
I don't have every detail figured out yet, and honestly, that's okay.
I'm learning to let the vision unfold while continuing to take the steps that feel aligned. Sometimes we spend so much time waiting until everything is perfect that we forget we can begin right where we are.
So here's to the next chapter. To building something meaningful. To movement that goes beyond the physical. To mental health, education, healing, and community. And to creating opportunities for more people to experience the benefits of all of it.
Welcome to iMUV Studios: Movement & Mental Health.
We're just getting started. 🤍 YAY :)
